what is the guitar and bass freternity?
the guitar & bass freternity is a place for like minded guitarists & bassists to share their knowledge of songs, riffs, solo's, techniques and instrument maintenance. this is done through members uploading their own tuitional videos. the freternity allows members to communicate with each other, comment and vote on their favourite videos. and it's all free!
how do i report abusive comments?
if you believe a comment posted by a member is offensive and/or abusive then you can report it to us by logging in to your account with your username and password and then click the spam/offensive button next to the alleged comment. this flags the comment to us and we then investigate the report. for non members, please send us the username of the alleged via the contact page and we will investigate.
how do i report inapropriate videos?
if you believe a video to be offensive and inapropriate then you can flag it to us by logging in to your account with your username and password and then click the 'flag' button under the video. this brings the video to our attention and we then investigate it. for non members, please send us the username of the member who the video belongs via the contact page and we will investigate.
why do certain parts of the site not work in my browser?
to make sure this site works with all features, please make sure you have both cookies and javascript enabled.
who can join the guitar & bass freternity?
anyone and everyone can join the guitar & bass freternity. no age limit and it's 100% free!
what is the welcome email?
the welcome email will provide you with your log in details. keep this email safe just incase you forget your username or password.
what is the activation email?
on completion of the sign up process we will send you an activation email. this is to verify that your email address is a valid one and that the sign up wasn't an automated spam one. please click on the link within this email to complete the sign up process.
does free sign up mean 'free'?
free means free!
are my details seen by others?
we guarantee that your full name and email details will not be available to anyone else and will never appear on the freternity web pages. they are for us to be able to verify your account and for us to contact you should we need to.
why can't i change the category of my video?
 
what content should i include in my video details?
in order for other members to find your video, it is important that you are accurate with your video details and descriptions. the upload process allows you to select the instrument, rhythm or lead and the skill level. if your video ends up in the wrong category etc.. then specific searches will not include your video. within the description try to include any instructions like chord progressions, scales used, keys, tuning methods so that other members can get the most out of your tuitional video.
how do i edit the details of my video?
once logged in, click the 'my videos' link at the top of the page. this will show a list of the videos you currently have uploaded. you will find a 'edit details' link to the right of the video details. click this link to be directed to the page that allows the details to be altered. please note that the category can not be changed!
how do i remove my videos?
once logged in, click the 'my videos' link at the top of the page. this will show a list of the videos you currently have uploaded. you will find a delete button to the right of the video details. use that to delete the video. be aware though, once confirmed your video will be gone!
where is my video?
once processed and converted, your video will appear on the site in the category you stated. as a member you will find your video in your profile area. once logged in click on the 'my videos' link at the top of the page. here you will be able to edit the video details or delete it.
how long does my video take to process?
we ask you to be patient as once you have submitted us your video it could take anywhere upto 8 hours to process depending on how big your file is and the amount of internet traffic.
what video files can i upload?
the video formats we accept are: .wmv .avi .mov .mpeg .mp4 .mpg .qt
how do i upload a video?
to upload a video you will need to be a freternity member. log in and then navigate to the upload page. choose the file to upload. be patient videos may take a while to upload, depending on file size. once uploaded you will then be asked to choose the instrument and category to which your video applies. then fill in the details in the upload form. if you upload a file, but don't finish filling in the details, then your video will be deleted.

how do i add/change my profile picture?
to add or change your profile image then you need to log in to your account. click on the 'my profile' tab where you will find the button that says 'add/update'. you can upload an image of file size no more than 50kb and with these file types: jpg, jpeg, jpe, gif. your image will be resized to 100px by 90px.
how do i block a member sending me mail or leaving comments?
if you want to block another user from contacting you or leaving comments on your videos then go to that users profile page. There you will see a link that says 'block user'. Having clicked the link, that user will then be blocked and any mail they have previously sent will be permanently deleted from your inbox. to unblock the user, simply go to your account page ('my profile' tab) and click the 'edit blocked users' link. this will send you to the page that allows you to unblock any users. should you wish to delete any comments that a user has left about your video then once logged in click the 'my videos' link. on this page at the far right of the particular video you wish to delete comments you will see a link 'edit comments'. once clicked a list of comments for that video will appear and you can select the comments for delete.
how do i stop comments being added to my video?
you can opt to not allow comments when you upload a video. alternatively you can log in to your account and then click the 'my videos' link at the top of the page. to the right of the video descriptions click the 'edit details' link of the particular video you wish to disable comments. change the drop down menu next to 'allow comments' so that it says 'no' and then press update. on the 'my videos' page you can instantly see which of your videos allow and don't allow comments.
how do i add a contact to my profile?
when you send a message to another member you will be asked whether you would like to add the member to your contacts. to view your contacts, forst log in then click on the 'inbox' link at the top of the pages. this will then open up links to your mail and contacts.
how do i add a freternity member to my profile?
to add another member as a favourite then you will need to be logged in. click on 'the freternity' tab and click the letter which applies to the first letter of their username. once you have found them click on their link. this will navigate you to their profile. there on the left hand side you will see the link 'add as favourites'. alternatively clicking on a members username whilst watching or browsing videos will also take you to their profile page.
how do i change my password?
first log in to your account with your username and current password. go to the 'my profile' page and you will see the my password box. here you can change your password with a maximum of 12 characters.
how do i retrieve my forgotton username/password?
go to the 'log in' page and click on the 'forgot username' or 'forgot password' link. enter the email address which you used to sign up and the verification code. if you have forgot your username then that will be sent to the supplied email. if you have forogt you password then we will reset it with a generic one and send you that. you will then need to log in and go to the 'my profile' page where you will be able to change it to something more memorable.
how do i close my account?
to close your account please send us instruction to do so via the 'contact' page. we will then send you a confirmation email that you will need to acknowledge to complete the account closing process. there are 2 levels of account closure. 1. complete profile delete including videos. 2. delete your profile from the site but leave your videos on the site for others to watch.
how do i search for freternity members?
to search for other freternity members you can use the search box that sits on 'the freternity' page. whilst in a members profile you can use that search box also to find members.
